Command ships are sturdy t2 versions of their t1 battlecruiser brothers, and are mainly intended as fleet boosters: that is, they are capable of utilizing modules which boost allied ships' performance, making an enormous difference even in the smallest of engagements.

Every race has a field and a fleet command ship. Field command ships are mainly intended for combat on a smaller scale, while fleet command ships are specifically made to put their ability to deal damage on a lower priority than that of boosting allied ships: they are much better at doing so.
