APEX Unlimited was initially founded as a research corporation for the Caldari State by Vendrin Latanis in April 108. As it's research was directed into military application for the most part, it became more and more paramilitary oriented. It was a founding member of two Caldari loyalist alliances, the Kimotoro Directive and later the APEX Conglomerate, however it was later discovered that the APEX Conglomerate and it's parent company had ties to several criminal organizations, and during an investigation into the Conglomerate by the Caldari Business Tribunal the Conglomerate removed itself from Caldari State jurisdiction. It is now an independent corporation loyal only to it's bottom line and shareholders.

Current Information

In late 109, APEX Unlimited and the APEX Conglomerate were sold to Cloora Firebrand by Vendrin Latanis. Ms. Firebrand is continuing to expand the corporation in it's industrial sectors as an independent corporation.

History

Founding, March 108

APEX Unlimited was founded by Vendrin Latanis on March 26, 108. Vendrin Latanis was frustrated by the lack of action by Gorion Wassenar, CEO of Tsurokigaarai (TKI), due to Gorion's planetside activities. Several other employees joined Latanis in leaving TKI for APEX.

Rouges War, March 108

APEX Unlimited upon it's formation quickly declared war on a Minmatar extortionist corporation known as the Rogues, in support of the Caldari Independent Navy Reserve. This was the first of many wars that CAIN and APEX would fight together and it seemed to promise a solid working relationship in the future.

Formation of the Kimotoro Directive, April 108

APEX Unlimited was an important initial part of the Kimotoro Directive. Perhaps this was folly due to the relative inexperience of APEX's CEO and it's employees, but all seemed well at the beginning. APEX pushed the alliance to move it's base of operations to the Mito Constellation, and expand anti-pirate operations into the low-sec regions. This would eventually lead to the Directive's trial by fire, one that it failed.

InoTech Star Drive Solutions, June - August 108

APEX Unlimited was an essential part in the testing and development of the InoTech Star Drive. The InoTech Star Drive was meant to be a jump drive that could be used on sub capital ships, and some suspect it was a leading cause to the creation of the jump drives on Black Ops class starships. Inoki Shotsu, CEO of InoTech Star Drive Solutions worked closely with Vendrin Latanis and Research Director Irias Salo of APEX Unlimited in the development and testing, with many key breakthroughs supplied by APEX employees.

Unfortunately it was later discovered that the test pilots InoTech employed were being forced to take illegal boosters. This caused a schism within APEX Unlimited with Irias Salo arguing to expose InoTech and free the test pilots, and Vendrin Latanis taking a more practical approach in attempts to ensure APEX would profit from the generous deal InoTech had offered to APEX. Irias Salo however disobeyed orders and broke into InoTech facilities with APEX Marines and rescued the test pilot that was left alive.

This risked APEX's business relationship with InoTech, and so Vendrin Latanis disavowed Salo's actions and put out an arrest warrant him and his assistant Mio Katungi. While neither Salo or the test pilot were ever captured, Latanis' actions as well as an agreement to use APEX pilots in further test runs(even though it could potentially kill them permanently) saved the business deal with Inotech.

After further attempts by Salo and his allies to disrupt InoTech's research that were stopped by the Kimotoro Directive as whole, a final test run in front of Caldari Navy officials was planned. APEX test pilots were planned to jump from the Icarus testing facility to another secure location in Caldari Navy ships. Unfortunately, the jump portals malfunctioned and set the test ships into uncharted 0.0 space across the cluster. Even worse, the portal collapsed causing a giant explosion that destroyed the Caldari Navy Chimera sent to observe the final test run.

It was undetermined whether the research was simply flawed or Irias Salo somehow sabotaged the navigation data and portal components.

Leaving the Directive, September 108

APEX Unlimited left the Kimotoro Directive due to internal conflict with members of CAIN as well as the fact that APEX wished to further pursue Irias Salo and those who had helped him, while the rest of the Directive did not. Actions taken by Latanis taken at the time to keep appraised of the Directive were what caused the main rift between CAIN and APEX which only grew over time.

The Mito Conflict, October - December 108

When the Kimotoro Directive was declared war upon by The Star Fraction, APEX declared war on the anarchist alliance in support of it's former allies even though the Kimotoro Directive did not particularly want APEX to assist it.

The war with the Star Fraction lasted till early December when APEX surrendered after the withdrawal of CAIN from the Directive as well as the majority of it's other member corporations.

Selling of APEX Conglomerate to Cloora Firebrand

With APEX Unlimited being mostly defunct, Vendrin Latanis was looking to close down APEX and move on to other endevours. In a conversation with his former Production Director, Cloora Firebrand, Cloora expressed interest in purchasing the mostly empty alliance from Vendrin with a full transfer of shares of the Executor corp. This was completed for an undisclosed amount and Cloora Firebrand took over as CEO and Major Shareholder of APEX Unlimited. This signaled a major shift in the direction of APEX as this was one of the first times Vendrin was not in any control of the decisions of APEX. It is known that he does still hold some APEX shares however, it is not known whether these shares give him significant voting rights or not.

Cloora announced the move in a communications on GalNet. [1]
