More about Luminaire

Luminaire is the cultural and spiritual home of the Gallente Federation, with both Gallente Prime and the recently-reclaimed Caldari Prime in orbit around the same star. Although Luminaire is the home system of the Gallente, it is not the capital of the Federation - that honour belonging to Villore. The system saw intense fighting in the year 110 between heavily outnumbered Federation Navy battle groups and the Caldari Navy fleet. A Caldari Navy Leviathan with its escort fleet is now permanent stationed above Caldari Prime, supervising the construction of a new outpost and holding the Federation at gunpoint with the threat of glassing the Gallente districts of Caldari Prime, and destruction of other planets in the system, notably including Gallente Prime, should the Federation attack.

Caldari Navy Leviathan & Escort Fleet

Battle of Caldari Prime, March 22, YC 115

On March 22, YC 115, the Shiigeru Leviathan and its escorting 37th Octopus Squadron over Caldari Prime was destroyed by a combined force of Federation Navy capital ships and capsuleers as part of Operation: Highlander. The Leviathan crashed onto the surface of the planet, forever scarring it with burning craters which can still be seen from orbit.

The effects of the battle continually resonate throughout New Eden. In April YC 116, the Caldari Executive Panel named several Caldari Provist officers from the 37th Octopus Squadron as traitors to the state and placed considerable PLEX bounties on their heads for capsuleers to reap, should their ships be located and destroyed. As of April 18, YC 116, several bounties have already been claimed.
