Starship Pilot Sanya

“Get to the escape pods! NOW!” she shouted over the voice coms. Her stern voice echoed through the ship’s bulkhead corridors. They were usually coated in bright, white light from the armatures. They were flickering now, and those corridors have never seemed so dark and terrifying as they did now. The end was pitch black, like staring down into a well.

Members of the crew were running down those very corridors when suddenly a sharp, blue beam tore through the walls, leaving a huge gap two meters wide. Air was quickly sucked out, dragging several crew members along with it. Their screams came to quick stop the moment they left the ship’s atmosphere.

One of them held tight to a pipe that had almost broken off, sticking out of the wall. She fastened her grip with her arms as a breathing shield manifested across her face. She gasped for air. A panel was residing a meter away from her. She struggled to reach the panel with one arm, all stretched out, while trying to retain her grip on the pipe.

“Get those atmospheric shields online! Seal the damned hull breach!” buzzed over the ship’s coms.

The previously dark corridor was suddenly engulfed in an intense, blue light, like staring into a star.¨ A black ship was sitting just outside the breach; a search light flickering back and forth.

“It’s too late”, she said calmly. She let go of the pipe and let the vacuum get hold of her body, almost gracefully accepting her surrender. Automated blast doors descended on each side of the corridor, sealing it off completely. All light had gone, and it was now completely devoid of sound. A beam from the ship residing outside grasped the crew members body, and disappeared into the blackness of space.

The propulsion engines started tearing off the ship, exposing it to the plasma. A brief explosion, and it quickly separated entirely from the ship. The shockwave throttled the ship away. The lights that were still visible on the ship’s hull started flicking before shutting off completely.

Only a single member of the ship’s crew was left in the derelict wreck. Accepting her demise, her last action was to initiate the stasis module. Her body froze, eyes closed, arms open, as if in a meditative state. Alone. Adrift. Into the unknown. Into the abyss. Into the cold, dark and unforgiving nothingness.
