Line 1: Line 1:
The Kalaakiota mountain foothills are home to the Black Tsuubaaki flowers. They grow year round to awaken the memory of loved ones passed, to remind that life is fleeting and must be cherished while it is given. Black Tsuubaaki are often used at funerals and memorial services as a mark of respect for the dead. Artificially cultivated varieties of different colour, usually red or violet, are also given as signs of affection between lovers. It is said that this tradition emerged from the notion that true love is a ‘little death’ of the couple involved and that only through their mutual sacrifice can future life and generations flourish.
