Appearance

Due to regulations concerning capsuleer image identification, Athryn's appearance on official portraits is different enough that you first might not recognize her if you actually met her. Most notably certain tattoos are always removed or altered in post-processing for privacy and cultural reasons. Her hair is nearly always longer than pictured, typically reaching all the way down to her thighs. Her natural haircolor is dark brown, which in certain starlight and artificial light conditions appears nearly black.

Voluval

Athryn has a Voluval mark identical to her father's - the Yetamo's Tongue. It is a common mark for Vherokior, situated a little above her navel, which is a typical place for the mark to appear.

History

Early Life

Born Athryn Myrianna Noduri, daughter to a Vherokior mystic Elenia Noduri and her lifemate Mikkon Noduri, Athryn had a humble and a genuinely loving beginning to her life on Gelfiven VI. When Athryn was around 10 years old and her family had settled on the outskirts of the capitol city, a retired Republic soldier saw her fighting with a group of boys from nearby houses – and besting them all. Even though it was more just a friendly tumble than an actual fight, half jokingly the former soldier told her that with her skills she should consider joining the Republic Military. While at the time she shrugged it off, the memory of this moment would play a large part on her later life.

Since her 15th birthday, once every year, her mother performed a spiritual ritual with Athryn; this brought the two very close. During this time she also learned many things about her mother's ancestry, that of the Vherokior mystics, but eventually did not choose to pursue this herself, for it was not her way - she exhibited only a few traits considered connected with the ways of the mystics.

As Athryn turned twenty, she started seeking new directions in her life. Encouraged by the odd encounter years ago, and with the support of her parents, she applied to the Republic Military School and was accepted after an audition with the application review board.

Recent Past

In YC102 Athryn Noduri started her career as a Republic Fleet Ensign. Going through basic training for a year and after choosing piloting as her orientation, she, as well as her classmates were allowed to start flying training vessels. During one particular debriefing the flight instructor noted to the class, much to Athryn's embarrassment, that ”she flew this ship like someone with ten years of experience.” It wasn't by no means unfounded praise – she could match her flight instructors maneuvers with remarkable ease, and truly seemed to know her ship from the inside out. Although she certainly did have some natural affinity for piloting, a large part in her great skills were simply the result of studying hard to understand spaceship systems, physics and also declining countless invitations to parties. Her supposedly stuck up attitude coupled with the praise showered on her by instructors soon earned her the part teasing, but mostly playful nickname ”Ten Years.” Over the years it became ”teinyhr”, a word from a Matari dialect spoken on several planets in Molden Heath, meaning ”persistence.”

Her training continued admirably, and in YC105 as she was about to graduate with honors and was already slated to become a pilot to a Tempest -class battleship owned by the Republic Fleet, she was found to be genetically compatible with the hydrostatic capsule. The Republic, at that time desperately needing capsuleers to bolster its ranks offered to train her to become one. Hesitant at first, having heard all the old and even some new horror stories of failing the capsuleer training program, she relented after being offered a contract in which it was assured that her closest relatives would be well compensated should she fail the program and that she "would be as humanely euthanized as possible.”

The training program she underwent was expectedly tough as nails, and at times took nearly sadistic properties on testing the mental faculties of the trainees. True to her nickname, Athryn persisted where some did not - the most mentally weak were weeded out of the program in a couple of months. In early YC108, after mere three years of training and preparation the fledgling pilots were connected to their capsules the first time, and the number of failures soared. It should be noted that three years is a very short time for capsuleer training - it was accelerated at the cost of trainee safety. Out of 104 trainees still in the program only 37 avoided mindlock – Athryn among the few. Out of the 37, eight found the experience so overwhelming and discomfortable they would not try it again, and at the cusp of immortality, rejected it. Athryn would embrace it, her destiny now entirely in her own hands.
