Profile

Hetu aus-Hegirin is a Vherokior capsuleer, scientist, and industrialist born in the Minmatar Republic. She was once a vocal proponent of the Parliamentary system of governance and, for several years, worked in earnest toward the goal of generating increased commerce in the depressed economy of Molden Heath. She is founder of and Principal of Research for Quintom Node, an independent venture focused on the scientific foundations of Precursor technologies.

Public Record

She is known to operate without any Family or Clan influence, an unusual circumstance among most Matari public figures, due primarily to her low status among other Tribals within Minmatar society. Indeed, many hardline traditionalists do not consider her fully Minmatar, among them her former Clan and Family. Urban Management records indicate that she was released by the Hedaluld Clan into public welfare shortly after her Voluval ritual, and that the greater Hegirin undertook her stewardship via the terms governing Lausa. As an adult who has not undergone the Rite of Naming, she is acknowledged by the foster Clan only as an ancillary member, and must append her use of the Clan name among the Matari in order to maintain decorum.

These same public records indicate that her early upbringing was comfortable, and that she received a well rounded education which was intended to prepare her for leadership among the women of Clan Hedaluld. She was said to display a strong propensity for spiritualism which her elders took steps to encourage. In the months shortly before her Voluval, however, the disposition of the elders soured, with records indicating that the young Hetu would receive no deeper tutelage of the Vherokior shamanic secrets, nor their matriarchs' shrewd mastery of social guiles. The abrupt change meant that she was stricken from her usual social circles, leading to brewing animosity between the youth and the authorities of her Clan. Her immediate Family sought to salvage the situation by enrolling Hetu in community schooling, meaning a more public exposure for her amid the more mundane Vherokior folkways of Fittakan. Her sheltered upbringing, coupled with the rumors surrounding her Voluval, ensured an uncomfortable transition into young adulthood.

It was in YC108 that Urban Management, through public-sponsored examinations administered in Republic-modeled educational institutions, brought to the Hedaluld the distinctive attributes marking Hetu as a capsuleer candidate. However, the Clan forbade the agency from interfering on her behalf, as the 'undeath' of the merged hydrostatic capsule and clone was considered profane to the elders. While many outside the Clan presented the distinction as a tremendous opportunity, the elders were quick to counter with an ultimatum forbidding her from accepting this path, making clear their intent to impose an unsavory consequence beyond the mere risk of death in the transformation to infomorph. In spite of this threat, the young Matari seized the opportunity presented to her by Republic officials, and as a result, Luleor, counselled by Family matriarchs supporting the Hedaluld elders, formally disavowed her blood bond to her daughter. Now without a Family, Hetu was released to the public welfare, semi-officially orphaned, while Urban Management handled her case.

Capsuleer prospects represent a potentially monumental boost to wealth and status, with the ability to change fortunes for many baseline Matari, making them highly regarded by many Clans. An orphaned candidate is an unusual and highly competitive circumstance. However, when the Hegirin member families negotiated their terms to foster this gifted Clanless, Urban Management was forced to make concessions. The Hegirin received a sizable quarterly subsidy for assuming the cost of fosterage, and this would last the duration of Hetu’s education. In exchange, they absorbed their new ward with the understanding that she would one day bring prosperity to her benefactors.

Professional Background

Hetu's primary schooling continued under the guidance of her adoptive Family, and while she was not given the deferential treatment afforded to many budding Matari capsuleer candidates, she was at least treated as "one among equals" by most. She experienced difficulty focusing on her studies, but also exhibited an exceedingly inquisitive nature. She often asked spiraling series of questions in the attempt to probe the materials presented in class, and drew more than her share of consternation from various educators. This transition to the level playing field of public education also introduced Hetu to the small and casual cruelties of young people, who did not let her forget her unpleasant past, typically in the form of concerted exclusion. Nonetheless, she managed handily to score out of secondary school, showing promise in physical sciences.

Leading up to her induction in the capsule pilot program, she enrolled for post-secondary education at Pator Tech School. It was in her undergraduate years here that she would acquire the knowledge to lead large-scale manufacturing projects and refine industrial processes. She pursued multidisciplinary studies related to the engineering applications of physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and developed an interest in photovoltaic systems as well as astrophysics. This interest would take a backseat to the capsule program, which began in earnest after the completion of her undergraduate degree in YC112. From then to YC113 the merchant naval operations and technical grounding proceeded nominally, during which Hetu experienced little difficulty.

The rigors of the physical orientation were an interesting paradox. While Hetu's body did not reject the gradual implantation process, her adjustment to the alterations to sense perception were cited in her file as frequently causing symptoms of mild dementia without any physical indications, as well as apophenia. Conversely, she emerged from extended periods of sensory deprivation with no apparent disorientation, her psychological health screenings noting a resilient will and highly-developed capacity for modal consciousness. Eventually, she acclimated to the neurosensory changes and persisted through the remaining orientation. By YC117, she had completed the capsuleer training, and resolved to remain at PTS to advance her academic knowledge to the graduate level.

Rekindling her prior interests, she sought research time under the institution's astrophysicists, assisting on papers pertaining to plasma physics, solar weather, and photospheric thermodynamics. Her Masters thesis bridged the gap between her practical beginnings and theoretical aspirations in a detailed proposal on the use of Silicon-Germanium polycrystalline structures in solar weather detection grids networked in the Odengsolf constellation, for the purpose of improved automation of InterBus and orbital customs office traffic in the event of severe CMEs. In YC118, she successfully defended her thesis, completing her education with PTS and acquiring her license as an independent capsuleer. While her post-graduate education focused on the physical mechanics of stars and their planetary systems, her recent research projects, conducted largely with Core Complexion, include many Physics sub-disciplines as well as multiple fields of Engineering.

According to the RSS public dossier, Hetu maintains excellent standings with the Republic as a result of her continued contribution in security operations against the Angel Cartel. She is also known to make regular custom with agents of Thukker Tribe member corporation Trust Partners, often frequenting their facilities throughout Fittakan. According to SCC and CISC logs, Otherwhere Circle operate industrial parks primarily in Fittakan and Tartatven, with routine travel to Joas, Sveipar, and Inkelm, as well as periodic support of research projects in Thoulde and Algintal. They state no official familial affiliations, and have recently opened up baseliner recruitment to Clans local to Molden Heath.

Personality Assessment

Clearance and licensing evaluations are consistent with regard to Hetu's personality. She is independent, self-confident, intensely curious, inquisitive, and eager to acquire understanding through applied reason. Her interests often shift, and her focus frequently gives way to a broader, all-encompassing outlook which is antipodal to her goal-driven attitude. She favors a pattern-seeking approach to problem-solving, and habitually seeks to establish connections between known quantities. Determining causal relationships, for example, is a primary objective, and serves her well in her vocation. This "cosmic" modality extends further into her worldview, informing her perception of her experience as a living being.

Hetu is guarded with her feelings, often compartmentalizing them in order to remain detached and impartial. She values her ability to rationalize objectively, opting to process her emotions in solitude. It is these moments that give rise to her more esoteric introspections, many of which grow into mantras of re-invigoration. For this reason, she cherishes periodic time and space alone, with little interference. In the absence of adequate latitude to decompress, she will typically react with impatience and frustration. She is tolerant of the feelings of others, understanding their passions, but generally engages only on a superficial level. In concert with her commitment to factual inquiry, persons who display genuine honesty are held in high esteem.

YC119 Events

YC119 Kyonoke Outbreak

In response to the Kyonoke outbreak on the Freedom Extension freight platform at Muttokon II, Otherwhere Circle was one of several parties permitted by the joint response group formed by Mizhara Del'thul to assist at the Containment and Staging citadel constructed by Otsito Mining and Manufacture. With the placement of a small laboratory on board, she assembled a personal library on various biochemical and biomechanical research topics in the hope that the information could be applied to aid whatever survivors were onboard. As the outbreak took root on Oijanen II, an Astral Mining platform in orbit around Postouvin IV, and a Genolution biotech research station orbiting Efu V, the cluster mobilized in order to confront the crisis. Once the Society of Conscious Thought intervened in Postouvin by constructing the H4-RP4 Keepstar and announcing the YC119 Kyonoke Inquest, Hetu duplicated her Muttokon lab in a public Astrahus deployed by FCORD adjacent to the SoCT citadel. While many capsuleers outside prepared numerous contingencies during the weeks prior to and including the official Inquest, eventually the official delegations within the H4-RP4 center were able to ascertain not only the nature of the outbreak, but contributed to the emergency development of a treatment for the pathogen, known as Agent 0410. After the apparent success of the treatment regimen in Postouvin, the quarantine zones elsewhere in the cluster commenced similar plans. Hetu resumed normal business operations, activating sequestered crews and suspended production lines, withdrawing from the FCORD facility and leaving her research library temporarily dormant Muttokon.

Stellar Object Melioroptics Augment Dataset

After an interval to administer her nominal industrial operations, her attention turned to the restructuring of Project Discovery and to citizen science. Specifically, with the then-pending overhaul of camera drone specifications, she sought to augment the exoplanet search with newly-collected observations of stellar objects themselves. In what is attributed as a related development, she deferred her involvement with Otherwhere Circle to align with a scientific initiative formed by enigmatic Intaki venturist and billionaire Akash en Chalune. Shortly thereafter, the newly incorporated Muspell Combine issued their first release, a solicitation for stellar observers to join a data collection effort dubbed SOMAD. According to the public statement, "...with the advent of overhauled firmware and technical specifications, capsuleer camera drones can now transmit interstitial composite EM band imagery in realtime to the capsule, greatly enhancing capsuleer ability to make local astronomical observations from space, and bringing us closer to parity with more specialized astronomical instruments." Outmoding the need for numerous stellar observation platforms, UIVIU employed capsuleers to deliver data which it then tabulated publicly. Hetu remained an official spokesperson and administrator for UIVIU for approximately 90 days, until data submissions slowed drastically. With 24 constellations now fully catalogued, progress on SOMAD has temporarily halted.

Moon Material Excavation Endeavor

Once Upwell Consortium was again making headlines with technological developments in the design of privately-owned industrial structures, Hetu began planning a new objective for Otherwhere Circle. The proposed refineries would potentially enable the small corporation to produce their own reaction materials, a stumbling block that had drastically slowed their ability to deliver on Transport Ships ordered between Q2 and Q3 YC119. Through a program of mapping and survey, she was able to determine a plan to deploy a new Athanor moon refinery at Moon 12 of Hedaleolfarber VI, along with a handful of back-up candidates elsewhere in Molden Heath. Unfortunately for the Circle, the many contracts they had compiled in order to secure the early position on limited moon mining permits did not provide the necessary leverage, and upon the public launch, they found themselves perfectly poised but with zero infrastructure support and total silence on their market calls. In her capacity as directing partner, Hetu was forced to default on the contracts, losing tens of millions in ISK penalties, with SCC records showing she has resumed seeking purchase agreements with capsuleer organizations in order to acquire the necessary reaction materials.

YC120 Events

RFO Material Support

After the Sanmatar's Military Council approved the operation of capsuleers within Republic Fleet Ordnance mining sites, Hetu resumed her security and mining operations in confrontation to Angels breaches in Republic space. Significant contributions were made to procurement of volatile Kangite for the continuing martial efforts against criminal interlopers. However, in light of the impact of the RFO resource defense activities on Circle output, Clan elders voted to suspend participation for the short term in favor of a refocus on open and unfinished local projects in Fittakan.

SynCon Outreach: Atlas & Cloudfront Tour

While growing production posed a significant time constraint, Hetu had a growing interest in shepherding the interests of industry beyond manufacture and into logistics partnerships. Coupled with her personal science initiatives, the upcoming SynCon Summit became an increasingly attractive venue to explore potential professional relationships. As she had already had informal introductions with several I-RED employees, contacting event officials to secure an invitation was a straightforward matter. The fortune was to be mixed. While a shift in power blocs was ongoing just outside the Republic borders, local supplies of the neighboring constellations were disrupted, cascading into Otherwhere Circle’s production lines. As managing partner, Hetu was tasked with keeping the manufacture operations running, and this conflict would prevent her from making the journey to Syndicate in time to participate in the Summit. Nonetheless, a remarkably fortuitous path presented itself in the form of a wormhole directly from Algintal to MK7-AO, ensuring her ability to attend the closing remarks by Director Bouchate and group tours of the newly-populated facilities. At the behest of Akash en Chalune, Hetu remained in Syndicate for several days afterward in order to make introductions to investors from Intaki Bank.

Universal Timebase Incident

Once CONCORD and Project Discovery announced their plans to conduct a public test of the directorate’s universal timekeeping, Hetu arranged a return to the Republic in order to observe. However, once again due to a problematic transit, she arrived in Luminaire only after the attack that transpired on Dr. Holnar Reniret and Officer Lorienne Nesif. In the aftermath, Hetu reached out to the officials regarding the status of their research, but in CONCORD’s tight-lipped fashion, she received no response. Given the involvement of Vherokior Tribe members and employees of Algintal Core, Hetu departed to Joila I-1 to lodge a formal complaint with ALGCO's CEO, Victor Alden. No comment was issued by the corporation with regard to the actions of these pilots, and the matter remains unresolved.

Moon Excavation Revisited

In the weeks subsequent, rumors began to emerge that DED would be relaxing the moon drilling safety protocols for refineries in select systems designated within CONCORD signatory borders. Thanks to the asset restructuring from her earlier failure to capitalize on Upwell refinery debut, and with the aid of the Intaki Bank affiliations she made on her recent visit to Syndicate space, Hetu mobilized the Circle for a first-strike posture in Gulfonodi. With the easement of restrictions official, extensive moon probing was performed throughout the system, until Moon 16 of Gulfonodi X was selected based on ore and reaction material composition. Within hours, construction had commenced on Otherwhere Circle’s first Upwell platform, and 24 hours later, the Midla | Elfide Creative was launched. The initiative first envisioned the year prior now realized, the Athanor welcomed a skeletal crew compliment and operated without modifications while operations approached nominal. Hetu took this time to catalogue mining output and to cultivate relationships with local industrialists during fracture harvests. She was also tasked with bringing the Circle’s young CEO, Oris Rokuen, to functional parity with herself. After several weeks of covert operations and intensive fleet ops training, she could successfully claim she was fully redundant in a leadership role within the Circle. This coincided with the up-spooling of refinery operations at MIEC+, with fracture and extraction modifications installed and crews flushed to full capacity. Quarterly reports were anticipated, but due to anemic outside investment, distribution of internal numbers has diminished in priority. While the Circle performed extensive research and development over its years-long partnership with Core Complexion, news of Thukker Mix technical asset ownership transfer allowed them to commit to a 20% increase in datacore trade, and the corp has added the Jaguar-class Assault Frigate to its production schedule for the remainder of the quarter.

Astromancer Aftermath & Yulai Quarantine

While the public attitude toward CONCORD and Project Discovery were not fully aligned, particularly among the capsuleer milieu, the appearance of Corrupted Trinary Data among the Drifters led to heightened speculation. The situation came to a head with the revelation of the Triglavian Collective aggression against the Drifters and the existence of newly-unclassified Abyssal Deadspace, Hetu returned to her role as Research Lead with Muspell Combine. What commenced thereafter was a months-long effort at reverse engineering Triglavian technology, beginning with the humanoid bio-adaptive apparatus, newly-acquired from her disreputable contacts in the Intaki Syndicate.

"Frithleik's Chasm"

As capsuleers delved into the terrible confines of abyssal deadspace, Hetu focused instead on turning what technical knowledge could be gained therein toward more familiar purposes. While the test and fabrication efforts were shrouded in secrecy, it was clear to members of her professional circle that Hetu was pursuing a strict methodology, and with apparent promise. However, after months of silence, her personal retreat was suddenly seized and her comms went dark. Within a matter of days, rumors began swirling among the local Clans regarding her disappearance. None of Hetu's personal attendants could be located, and, once pressed by Urban Management officials, the technical staff of Muspell Combine could produce no record of the research they claimed she pursued. The scandal reached fever pitch when a document was leaked on the local Fittakan subnets. While the authenticity of the document could not be verified, without the status afforded to Named members of the Vherokior Tribe, it is assumed Hetu fled prior to a summary judgement as a trespassing malefactor. Her expeditious relocation to the northern verge of Solitude along with her dismissal from Muspell Combine seem to support the assertion that the parting was sudden and severe. Her assets were seized and redistributed to Clan membership, save for her controlling shares in Otherwhere Circle, which were granted to newly-appointed partner Gunheir Vuld. After years of public service, she had become a pariah practically overnight.

The Reason and the Rubric

Whatever the technological underpinnings of Hetu's research into Triglavian faculty, it was clear that the result was a change in philosophy. Perhaps it was the time and distance, once removed from Clan influence, that aided this reframed perspective. Whatever the case, it was clear that Hetu's attentions turned from the mechanisms of Triglavian prowess toward the principles from which they derived. Clearly advanced beyond even the conceptual notions of New Eden's theoreticians, the reverse engineering of Triglavian technology became but an ancillary benefit to establishing the intent behind the Precursors' designs. Thus, she returned to her roots in the discplines of physics to explore the question of Triglavian inhabitation of abyssal space. Deducing that the Precursors, who inhabited New Eden millennia before the modern age, would first have to discover the means and methods by which they might escape known space, she resolved to follow in their scientific footsteps. To this end, she used the last of her personal resources and professional contacts to incorporate as Quintom Node, planting the center of operations directly on the border with the Cord of the Elements. At the closing of YC120, her discovery team's preparations, in tandem with researchers of the Rhea Initiative, were completed. Shortly thereafter, the work of unlocking the Precursors' understanding of abyssal space commenced with the announcement of the CORE-SPINDyl Program. By early YC121, the final steps in preparation for observations were underway.

Future Outlook

Thanks to scant accounts and some conjecture, it is widely surmised that Hetu continues her research among the Quintom Node laboratories between Syndicate and Solitude, despite withdrawing from public life. By all accounts, she has become reclusive beyond the immediate community of baseline researchers, and appears to reject the political interests of empire and empyrean alike. Still, among the Thukker and Intaki scientists there remain persistent rumors of her long retreats into virtual constructs, leaving her medical clones to languish bygone for days or weeks at a time.
