Overview

The island of the Matmoro, which lies to the southeast of Mahj, is dominated by several large and steep mountains and cliffs, as well as various smaller islands right of its coast. The tropical climate, various coves and inlets, unique topography, and a sizable coral reef on the south side of the island has made the island a popular tourist destination not just among the Brutor, but the wider population of Matar, which has resulted in a vibrant tourism industry. The island is shared between three main clans: the Aloga who control the shipping industry of the island, the Ngai who have dedicated themselves to supporting the flourishing tourism and entertainment sectors, and the Tohunga who have built a reputation as master craft and tradesmen. Situated closer to the mainland continents of Matar, and straddling the ever important Bhurma Strait, Matmoro serves as a natural trade hub, acting as one the first port of calls for goods flowing in either direction. The main city, named after the island itself has prospered as a result of this position, and has generated a sizable source of income for the Aloga Clan, giving them a significant advantage and making them the more dominant of the three clans, however they have all lived and worked peacefully on the island contributing to its prosperity since the early days of the Rebellion.

Matmoro City, while not nearly as large as Berrahem, is still a major population center, being the largest city on the island as well as in its particular region of the Moiar Archipelago. The city itself has been built to accommodate the unique landscape; rather than leveling out mountains, the Brutor architects instead have built around them and incorporated them into their designs. Buildings hug the steep cliffs, curve around the mountains, and have harnessed the waterfalls flowing from deep springs as a source of power. As a result, the city aesthetic is one that both adds to, and highlights the natural formations, while preserving the ecosystem that surrounds it, something that its residents are quite proud of. A series of waterfalls along a central ridge form the center of the city, above which lays the main Marae, or plaza, which serves as the Aloga’s, and by extension, the city’s, primary gathering place where clan meetings are held.
