Odelya d'Hanguest is a Khanid capsuleer who appeared flying under the banner of the 1st Praetorian Guard and ZERO HEAVY INDUSTRIES. She is a Holder in the Khanid Kingdom and lays claim to territories in the present Minmatar Republic.

Early Years

YC 90 to 95: Childhood

Odelya Negin Intourtsetseg (“Cherry Blossom”) d’Hanguest was born on Khanid Prime in the spring of YC 90. She is the youngest daughter of the late Duke Isin III d’Hanguest. She has two siblings, her older brother Otgonbayar who was groomed as heir to the d’Hanguest holdings, and her older sister Morijah (born YC 69) who trained to become a lawyer and now executes the daily business of the family. Her mother was an aspiring oceanographer who committed herself to representative duties after marrying her husband. The House of d'Hanguest is of old blood: The genealogical records of the d’Hanguest family trace its roots to the original Reclaiming on Athra. For centuries the lineage produced a plethora of warriors and knights which fought at the front lines of the Reclaiming. Dorji d’Hanguest (21229-21312) was the first d’Hanguest to be elevated to Holder status when Palas VIII, an oceanic planet with an abundance of sea life, but no indigenous human population, was bestowed upon him. After the conquest of the Minmatar Empire and surrounding solar systems, Dorji IV d’Hanguest (22399-22613) became a contender for the Duchy of Lustrevik, even though it is not entirely accesible upon what he and the other contenders based their claims upon. Before Damius III died in 22626 AD it seemed the claims of the d’Hanguest were gaining the upper hand, then again after Velenus IV became Emperor the situation was further obscured. After Khanid II split from the Empire the d’Hanguest were among his devoted followers, and later occupied various positions in the Royal Khanid Navy. As an immediate result of the schism the d'Hanguest lost all tangible claims to Lustrevik. Notwithstanding the family continues to bear the according titles.

YC 96 to 106: Boarding School

Although d'Hanguest's mother wanted to get her daughter into a SoCT school, her father decided to send her to “St. Anoyia Boarding School for Girls” on Khanid Prime, where most of the d'Hanguest girls received their education for the last centuries. Little is known about her studies there, except that she was accused of “lavish spending” by her schoolmates, and her mother was often called to the headmistress' office. Before receiving a formal degree d'Hanguest dropped out of school by the end of YC 106.

YC 107 to 110: Khanid It Girl

Turning seventeen d'Hanguest gallivanted throughout the galaxy, spending much of her time in entertainment facilities—allegedly celebrating extravagant and bizarre orgies. Named the First Khanid It-Girl by the Gallente yellow press, she received intense and often suggestive media coverage. Gathering crowds of young followers on the Crystal Boulevard in Caille, the news became a major disturbance to her family. Several attempts to force her back to the Kingdom failed. Some claim that it was only when she run out of money and the Gallente banks would not give new loans to her that she returned to her family on Khanid Prime. According to d’Hanguest herself it was a vision of St. Tetrimon, who during a drugged night in the Glittering Dream commanded her to change her life by revealing the treasures of faith to her, that made her return to the Kingdom.

YC 110 to 112: Imperial Academy and War Academy

Back on Khanid Prime d'Hanguest was medically examined since her family was alerted that Odelya might have abused neurotoxic drugs and appetite suppressants while in Caille. In the process it was discovered that she was fully pod compatible and her father send her to enrol in the Imperial Academy a few days later. After only one year of training d'Hanguest gained her pod license—and it is rumoured that this had more to do with contacts than efforts. Having never been to the proper Empire before, d’Hanguest was intrigued by its culture, but at the same struggled with grasping the sometime devious and excessively complicated social mechanisms that are different from that of the Kingdom.

After graduating d’Hanguest joined the War Academy, a capsuleer corporation formed by former mercenaries. The War Academy provided combat training for young pilots and was also involved in anti-piracy operations in the Bleak Lands and Heimatar. Since the corporation was based in the Minmatar Republic, with its headquarters in Lustrevik, d’Hanguest tried to establish contacts to the Republic Justice Department  to gather archival evidence about her family’s old claims. Being mocked for being a “reactionary slaver” d’Hanguest lacked the skill to deal with what she considered to be “senseless tribal primitives”, and her efforts remained substantially unsuccessful. This experience also shaped her views on Minmatar Tribal Society which she deeply distrusts and considers as centuries behind time. Nevertheless she earned the respect of her multi-ethnic corp members for becoming an accomplished combat pilot.

YC 112 to 113: The 24th Imperial Crusade

In YC 112 d'Hanguest joined the 1st Praetorian Guard which was part if the 24th Imperial Crusade. She rushed through the ranks and lifted the spirits with her solemn and juvenile passion. During this time d'Hanguest also took various assignments from the Theology Council and was noted as being extremely zealous in her approach to all religious matters, bringing her into conflict with her superiors. In an environment which mostly consisted of citizens of the Empire d'Hanguest took an often uncompromising, traditional stance and became “more Amarrian than the Amarr.” In YC 112 she founded the Khanid Publishing House Ltd. which aimed at providing the faithful with spiritual and encouraging literature. She released her “Book of Prayers and Devotions for the Reclaimer” on 112.09.20, and dedicated it to the Empress and the martyred High Deacon of the Theology Council, Mervan Moritok. The manual was praised for its “righteousness” among loyalist capsuleers, while at the same time Elsebeth Rhiannon criticised the book for making references to the Day of Darkness. In turbulent times and after the sacred defense of Arzad, d'Hanguest was appointed head persecutor of a military tribunal against her friend Tobias Primus, who was accused, and found guilty, of treason. The verdict captured broad attention among the loyalist community.

After closing the case d’Hanguest inexplicably disappeared for some months and there are unsustained rumours that she suffered from psychiatric disorders due to long periods of stress and war fatigue. Finally, after one year and two months with around one thousand enemiy hulls destroyed, d'Hanguest left the 1st Praetorian Guard in the rank of Decurio. She joined ZERO HEAVY INDUSTRIES, which had become a celebrated leader of the Amarr Militia. Soon she earned her Kepi Blanc and became a trusted Legionnaire. During this time she was also noted for being one of the first crusaders wearing a variety of NeX fashion.

YC 113 to 115: Retreat and Return

YC 113 became a real annus horribilis for d’Hanguest. While on patrol duty in Kourmonen, d’Hanguest received news of the passing of both her father and brother. During a big game hunting trip on a jungle world in Khanid low sec, the two were ambushed by a group of feline carnivores and heavily wounded. Although the wounds were not immediately life threatening, the dispatched medical rescue party arrived too late due to atmospheric storms. The duke and his heir died seven hours later. Since her older sister was under oath not to claim any titles, the duchy passed on to Odelya. Returning to Khanid Prime were the late duke and his son were buried, d'Hanguest was invested in the full regalia as Duchess of Palas and Lustrevik. Two days later d'Hanguest withdrew from the capital for meditations at a private institute attached to the Order of St. Tetrimon in the Parses System. She retired the militia as a Divine Commodore and founded Khanid-damashii, a group that promotes the warrior spirit and religious zeal of the Khanid people and aims at regaining the purity of ancient times.

In YC 113.11 d’Hanguest’s sister and the family lawyers disowned her in a public stunt which came to be known as the “holo reel affair”. While the duchess was inhibited from accessing her estates, and exercising any of her clerical and governing functions, her rightful entitlement to her holdings was later confirmed. There is little public knowledge on the exact circumstances, but it seems that the d’Hanguest sisters have achieved reconcilement in mid YC 115 with most of the former family lawyers publicly executed. A Sukuuvestaa Corporation contractor, who witnessed the executions, describes the events in his travelogue: “It was a terrible sight, even by Amarrian standards. The Duchess was seated under a heavily ornamented baldachin, wearing a splendid priestly costume. In front of her around twenty old men were forced to accuse each other of the most unspeakable atrocities. The Duchess then read out the death sentences, and, only after prolonged torture, the poor old men were drowned in the sea, one by one. Their naked corpses were put on display and marked with the sign of treason, which they call a Molokh.”

In YC 114.08 d’Hanguest rejoined 1PG which had become a member of the CVA. In a leaked statement from Legatus Gangleri it is implied that she was on special assignment for an undisclosed Khanid Ministry, supposedly purging it from Blood Raider cultists. Upon rejoining d’Hanguest was appointed Optio and made responsible for recruitment and propaganda. It however appears that she never actively resumed her duties and in 115.07 d'Hanguest put on her Kepi Blanc again and reentered ZERO HEAVY INDUSTRIES as a Legionnaire.

YC 115 to today: Radicalisation, Abdication, and “Glorious Restoration”

In late YC 115 theological debates about the legitimacy of the Theology Council and the Moral Reforms turned into a heated controversy between d’Hanguest and members of the Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris. Gaven Lok’ri, Lord Admiral of PIE Inc., put d’Hanguest’s name on a “list of heretics,” which was considered to be an aggressive act against not only herself, but the Khanid Kingdom as a whole by d’Hanguest. The unceasing exchange of hostilities, the failure of diplomacy, and rejection to settle the case by a singular trial by combat subsequently escalated into broader combat. War was unofficially announced by Jude Kopenhagen, a mercenary leader who was temporarily charged with aiding the Ducal Palasian Squadron [DPS] in combatting PIE Inc. The formal declaration of war authorised and instructed “all commanders of the Ducal Palasian Squadron [DPS], its attached mercenary forces, and all captains of civilian vessels [...] to subdue, seize and take any armed vessel of the Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris which shall be found within the jurisdictional limits of the Duchy of Palas, or elsewhere.”[1] It ended, with minimal losses on both sides, on the last day of YC 115. It was this very day that d'Hanguest issued on instrument of abdication placing her sister Morijah d'Hanguest on the throne of the Duchy, while d'Hanguest took refuge in a monastery belonging to the Order of St. Tetrimon.

It was there that she experience another apparition in which St. Tetrimon ordered her “to make war upon your enemies and reclaim what is justly yours.” [...] In YC 116 d’Hanguest announced “that the Duchy of Palas will provide 100.000.000 ISK and the honorary title of <>iTopoteretes of the Ducal Palasian Squadron [DPS] to the first capsuleer of Amarrian faith who will provide us with a corpse of Nauplius and salvaged parts from one of his vessels” which was later extended to members of the eight great Caldari corporations. Nauplius, a Khanid commoner who served under d’Hanguest in 1PG, had become a controversial figure among capsuleers who almost univocally denounced his mass killings of Minmatar slaves and rejected his claims of prophethood. It were Jude Kopenhagen and Kohiko Sun who seized Nauplius’ frozen corpse which was later put on public display in the White City of Palas. In a posthumous trial that has been called “sensational” by the Gutter Press [...]

In late YC 116 d’Hanguest became a member of the Order of St. Severian. The Order of St. Severian subscribes to a Khanid influenced chiliastic cult centred around the anticipated return of Severian Astur. Many believe the order to be a splinter group of the Order of St. Tetrimon, some argue that it developed independently during the Moral Reforms, yet others believe it actually invented its tradition. While almost nothing is is known about the structure of the order, or d’Hanguest’s role in it, Elusenian exchange students reported that in three Palasian shrines Severian officiants replaced priests who belonged to Khanid Orthodox Church.

Political and Religious Views

Under the guidance of the Order of St. Tetrimon, her family priests, and experiences with Amarrian capsuleers and officials, d’Hanguest grew more and more critical of the Amarr Empire. She has privately raised questions about the legitimacy of Jamyl Sarum being Empress and publicly criticised the Emancipation Decree, agreeing with many of the refusards’ arguments. She was equally alarmed by Yonis Ardishapur’s reforms in the Ammatar Mandate and has expressed concerns that further reconciliation with the Empire might devastate Khanid society and its achievements, restrict the power of its holders and reduce the Kingdom to a mere lookalike of an Amarr province. In accordance with this, d’Hanguest has expressed strong anti-Unionist views. For her unionists are nothing short of being traitors to King and Kingdom.

While studying history and theology during her monastic stays with the Order of St. Tetrimon, d'Hanguest became convinced that the Kingdom has achieved a favourable status which resembles the state of the pre-Moral Reforms Empire. She favours a model of government which would reinstate the Council of Apostles, disband the Theology Council, limit the power of the Emperor and extend that of local holders, abolish the Succession Trials and again select the Emperor, who would serve as the first among equals, from a serving member of the Council of Apostles by a two-thirds vote. For d’Hanguest Heideran V, Heideran VII, and the Theology Council are the epitomes of moral decay and heresy. The indifference which many Amarrians show towards the Reclaiming is also one of d'Hanguest's main concerns. In her view it is the duty of every believer to fight against threats to the Amarrian people until total supremacy has been achieved. She also noted for holding Emperor Armani I in high esteem, calling him “the most misunderstood Emperor in history”.

Physical Appearance

Odelya appears to be very skinny, fragile and delicate. Her clone age is approximately twenty years, but appears slightly younger. She usually wears uniforms while on duty and for official occasions. In private she is often dressed overly casual.
