Overview

Project Theta attempts to create new Capsuleer technology by studying Rogue Drone materials. The technologies to be constructed will only be created for the express purpose of furthering the RD Divisions ongoing research goals and to aid other Divisions in their research. Technology will be limited to, A.I.-cores, comm systems, modules and rigs. Project Theta does not intend to create destructive technology, but rather a set base for future inventions. The goals of the Project will be fulfilled by studying known Rogue Drone technology and finding new unknown ones, and reverse-engineering them. A special interest of the project are Spatial Rifts, and the forces that operate them.

Research Devices Being Developed

The blueprint drafting and preliminary firmware debugging have concluded. Field tests are slated to begin on the third Friday of December YC113.

Comm Override Unit

This planned device is intended to act as a safe communications medium between humans and rogue drones. It has the needed logic to encode and decode messages on the fly. It will flush it's log buffer to the nearby portable database, logging both incoming and outgoing transmissions as plain text. This item must be fit to a ship. Estimations indicate it will need a medium-power output connection, and draw around forty megawatts after activation. The activation cost is estimated to be around twenty gigajoules. Estimated volume is ten cubic meters.

Portable Database

This is a planned back-end unit meant soley for intermediary data storage. It is accessed remotely by the station-side unit for analysis, and by the comm override unit as a secondary storage medium. This item needs to be fit to a ship. Estimations indicate it will need a high-power output connection, and draw around eighty-eight megawatts after coming online. Estimated volume is two hundred cubic meters.

Station-side System Core

This unit, while "portable" is meant to operate from within a station. It will read and pull data from the portable databases for processing. It also functions as a comm override unit. Estimated volume is thrity cubic kilometers. This system is the heart of the isolated comm system. It should be noted that we may need CONCORD approval to activate this device within Empire, Republic, State, and Federation space.

Product Testing Report

The network link has performed admirably during the first testing phase. The potential bandwidth is better than current technological limits if Triglavian tech is ignored. Real-world testing is required for further data collection and analysis.

Offline simulations on the assembled prototype system indicate previous potential bandwidth numbers may be the result of a hard-coded data compression algorithm.

Notable Simulation Results

Offline simulations have been ongoing for approximately two years on the prototypes. Data tabulation indicates efficiency improvements in transmission quality, speed and bandwidth usage. Data indicates the quality and speed improvements are smaller than the bandwidth usage improvement.

Practical Application Research

Practical application research is known to be inevitable. Preliminary findings on primary Project Theta projects indicate drone enhancement equipment could be first.

Applied Rogue Drone technology so far

'Integrated' Drones: These drones have so many Rogue Drone components in them that they begin to resemble almost the Rogue Drones themselves. They have better firepower and armor than the average drones.

'Augmented' Drones: These are like Integrated drones, only they have much more rogue drone parts in them.
