IC, /*OOC*/: Research Modules

I am hereby releasing the resource lists and item specs. Please note none of these have been finalized, and the final product versions are likely to be different. Input and feedback are welcome.

Comm Override Unit: This planned device is intended to act as a safe communications medium between humans and rogue drones. It has the needed logic to encode sent and decode received the messages on the fly. It will flush it's log buffer to the nearby portable database, logging both incoming and outgoing transmissions as plain text. Executable commands and images will be saved in Base64. This item must be fit to a ship. My estimations indicate it will need a medium-power output connection, and draw around eighty megawatts after activation. The activation cost is estimated to be around thirty gigajoules. Estimated volume is ten cubic meters.

Material list so far determined Drone capillary fluid, drone synaptic relay wiring, drone transceiver, logic circuits, ANN, micro circuits, power circuits and conduit, tritanium, pyerite, binary transpositional code,

/*Attributes

  • Mass: unknown
  • Volume: 10 cubic meters
  • Activation cost: 30 GJ
  • Cycle time: Until deactivated
  • Special: Overrides on-board comm unit

Fitting

  • Medium slot
  • 80 MW

Portable database: This is a planned back-end unit meant soley for intermediary data storage. It is accessed remotely by the station-side unit for analysis, and by the comm override unit as a secondary storage medium. This item needs to be fit to a ship. My estimations indicate it will need a high-power output connection, and draw around one hundred ten megawatts after coming online. Estimated volume is two hundred cubic meters.

Material list so far determined Drone capillary fluid, drone synaptic relay wiring, drone transceiver, logic circuits, micro circuits, power circuits and conduit, consumer electronics, tritanium, pyerite

/*Attributes

  • Volume: 200 cubic meters
  • Mass: unknown
  • Special 1: Logs communication data sent and received by the ship-board comm unit override
  • Special 2: Connects the ship-board unit(s) to a much larger private network.
  • Special 3: Advanced ECC enabled = True
  • Special 4: Autobackup enabled = True
  • Special 5: RAID 0 = True
  • Cargo Penalty: 200 cubic meters

Fitting

  • High slot
  • 110 MW

*/
-----------------------------

Station-side system core: This unit, while "portable" is meant to operate from within a station. It will read and pull data from the portable databases for processing. It also functions as a comm override unit. Estimated volume is thrity cubic kilometers. This system is the heart of the isolated comm system.

Material list so far determined Drone capillary fluid, drone synaptic relay wiring, drone transceiver, logic circuits, ANN, micro circuits, power circuits and conduit, corporate electronics, tritanium, pyerite,

/*Attributes

  • Special 1: Data storage device = True
  • Special 2: Comm override unit = True
  • Special 3: Channels overridden = 1
  • Special 4: RAID 32 storage = True
  • Special 5: Nested RAID 0 redundancy = True
  • Mass: unknown
  • Volume: 30 cubic kilometers

*/

One of the mentioned items, the Aether hive link, might be useful if we can reverse engineer something similar to link the units together, completing the isolation goal.

OOC (27/10/2014): Drone Control Modules Idea

Small module: Improved drone reaction time (A DPS boost in the form of more shots fired and slight accuracy boost.)

Medium module: Reduces drone bandwidth usage, trading cargo capacity to deploy extra drones. (Only fits to ships with drone bays that have the capacity to utilize this.)

Large module: Can only be fit to ships that don't have a drone bay, and gives that ship a drone bay at a steep penalty to cargo capacity. It also adds the bonuses from the other modules depending on the cargo capacity of the ship in question. (Specifically, this module will fit to certain industrial hulls in addition to all freighter-class hulls.)
